Meditation Mindfulness Books
The Noble Eightfold Path Way to the End of Suffering; Bikkhu Bodhi.
A concise and very informative little book written by a highly respected scholar monk in the Theravadan tradition.

Mindfulness in Plain English; Bhante Gunaratana.
A thoughtful book that explains the reasons for mindfulness practice and how to do it. Perfect for beginners and experienced meditators. An excellent first book.

Insight Meditation; Joseph Goldstein.
Another great book for beginners and experienced practitioners.

Vipassana Meditation; S. N. Goenka.
While a bit more narrowly focused, this is a small book that covers a lot of ground. Great for the beginner interested in Vipassana meditation as tought in this lineage.

Majjhima Nikaya; translated by Bikkhu Nanamoli and Bikkhu Bodhi.
152 Discourses (Sutta) given by the Buddha and his principle disciples. This is the source and an invaluable resource for discovering, exploring and practicing the Path. There are more volumes in the Theravadan and early Buddhist traditions, this is a good place to start.

Mindfulness; Joseph Goldstein.
Based on the Satipatthana Sutta, this wonderful book goes into more depth without being overwhelming. Well written, understandable and full of practical advice.

Focused and Fearless; Shaila Catherine.
An excellent book for those who want to explore deep Buddhist concentration practice (Jhana) in the Theravadan tradition.
